This permit application is for permanent public dance halls. Arlington does not issue permits for temporary or one-time events. You’ll also need to obtain a special exception use permit before this public dance hall permit. Some commercial zoning districts allow restaurants with live entertainment and dancing by special exception use permit. Application for dance hall permits should be made at the Zoning Office on the 10th floor of 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
Chapter 36, “Public Dance Halls” is the section of the Arlington County Code that regulates any place open to the general public where dancing is permitted. This ordinance provides that dance hall permits may be issued by the County Manager when application is made, the $630 fee is paid and other criteria contained in Chapter 36 are met. The Zoning Administrator is the County Manager’s designee to issue these permits.
