Arlington County has a new submission requirement when installing a secondary sink within your dwelling unit. Starting February 1, 2019, any new sink installed outside of an existing kitchen or bathroom will require the submission of an Additional Sink Affidavit to the Zoning Division. The Additional Sink Affidavit replaces and streamlines the now discontinued Zoning Division requirement for a Sink Notification Letter.
The primary purpose of the Additional Sink Affidavit is to ensure that the installation of a new sink does not result in the creation of an additional dwelling unit where one is not otherwise allowed. Several project types may require an Additional Sink Affidavit. One common project type that will require an Additional Sink Affidavit is a basement wet bar.
Submission & Review Process
Zoning Plan Review will determine if an Additional Sink Affidavit is required during its review of a building permit drawing set. If required, the assigned Zoning Plan Reviewer will contact the homeowner and send a link to the Additional Sink Affidavit, along with instructions on how to submit the completed form via ePlan. Hard-copies of the Additional Sink Affidavit will also be accepted at the offices of the Zoning Division (2100 Clarendon Boulevard, 10th Floor).
For an Additional Sink Affidavit, the filing fee is $31, plus a 5% automation enhancement fee. The filing fee is paid to the Inspection Services Division (ISD) prior to the issuance of the associated building permit. See Zoning Division Fee Schedule.
