All building — new construction, renovations and maintenance — in Arlington is regulated by a series of codes, ordinances, determinations and amendments. Before you begin your project, make sure your review the County's regulations.
Types of Code and Ordinances
Arlington County uses the 2012 Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC). View the Building Referenced Codes & Standards guide for construction design parameters and code edition.
Virginia Energy Conservation Code (VECC)
The Inspection Services Division requires that new commercial plans submitted for permit demonstrate compliance with the VECC and also provides a complete Arlington County Energy Cover Sheet.
Condition of Private Property Ordinance
Regulations in this ordinance pertain to the maintenance (weeds, vegetation, rodents, etc.) of private property.
