Most building projects require a residential or commercial building permit. Other permits may be required as well, depending on the project. Generally, any type of structural work will require a building permit, although smaller-scale projects like residential cabinets, small sheds and trim will not (see a list of residential permit exceptions). Some projects will also require one or more trade permits (electrical, mechanical, plumbing or fire) even if a building permit is not required.
Customers can choose to submit building permits and land disturbing activity applications in paper or online. These include commercial new construction, additions and renovations, residential new construction, additions and renovations, and land disturbance.
